Worship Services Sundays 10:30 am
At Emmanuel we celebrate life with God through blended worship that encourages intergenerational and inter-cultural participation. We seek to engage the whole person in worship through the use of symbolism and creativity in many forms. This helps us sense and express our intimate relationship with God in ways that go beyond an intellectual knowing. Volunteers are engaged in planning and leading music in a variety of styles, writing and reading prayers and poetry, scripture reading, puppetry, drama, visual art and liturgical movement. We also observe communion on the first Sunday of the month, and baptisms several times a year.
Music at Emmanuel is a blend of contemporary songs, traditional hymns, classical and folk music, and both volunteers and professional musicians are involved in worship teams, choirs, and small vocal and instrumental ensembles. To celebrate seasons like Christmas and Easter we often team up with UVic music students and other church choirs and soloists to create a larger scale performance of a classical work, such as Handel’s Messiah, to which we invite the community. We also welcome children to be part of worship and create ensembles and opportunities for young musicians to share their gifts in worship and receive encouragement and training towards leadership
